Hey Guys!

     Hi! My name is Olivia, but everyone calls me Liv and I like it that way. I want to use this post to tell you a few things about myself, so here we go!

     Firstly, I was born in Dundee, Scotland. It's a small city about the size of Kitchener and it's located on the east coast of Scotland, on the River Tay. It is a beautiful country, but Canada will always be my home no matter what. I moved here when I was four going on five years old, so in August it will be my tenth year here.

     Now, for all my favorites! My absolute favorite British-Irish boy-band is.... you guessed it! One Direction! I've loved them for over a year now, and they are the best! Their music is something that no other boy-band has sung about before, which makes them extra unique. Their style and the way they present themselves is flawless. 

     Thirdly, for movies and books. The best movie and book franchise of all time is the Harry Potter series in my opinion. Just the way J.K. Rowling writes captivates you, and the books are defiantly a page turner. The books were so powerful that it started to make me believe in magic! Crazy right?! I could read and watch that series over and over again without getting bored. 

    They say a dog is a man's best friend (I'm a girl, but you know what I mean), and I couldn't get enough of my dog Sadie! She's only five, but her mental age is two. She is cross between a poodle and golden retriever, which makes her a golden doodle. She's a very hyper dog, who loves being taken for big walks everyday and she loves her pink cat stuffed animal. My family hopes to get her a brother or sister in the fall.

     And lastly, my future goals. When I was younger, I wanted to be a pilot, and for quite a long time. But now that I've gotten older, and I know more about the world, I've developed an interest in Physiology and Sociology. In simpler form, the study of the human mind and why society is the way it is. It intrigues me to find out why a person is doing the things that they do, or why a lot of developing countries have poor to no woman's rights. But, there is something else that has caught my interest over the past year that is very different from the human mind, and that is makeup. I've started wearing makeup and playing around with it. It amazes me how makeup can change your whole appearance, even make you look like another person if you use the right tools. So, maybe that's what I'll be in ten years time, a makeup artist. You'll never know where life takes you...

Looks Aren't Everything.

During this very interesting and informative TED Talk, Cameron Russel explains how being a model has effected her whole life. She explains how the won the 'genetic lottery' meaning she's tall, beautiful, skinny and she's an underwear model. Her looks have blessed her in a postie and negative way. She goes in-depth into a models mind and what her life-style is. The modeling industry is cruel to young girls because it effects the way they think and feel about themselves. She addresses the fact that a lot of people think models have no insecurity, have no worries and have a perfect life, but it's not true. Cameron tells the audience how none of those things are true, and how models are often times forced to be something and represent something that isn't a good thing.


This TED Talk interested me a lot because I've always been interested in how the human mind works, why society is the way it is and why people do certain things. The talk was an eye opener because I realized that I was one of those people that was stereo-typing models for what I was seeing. I understand now that models have insecurities and their lives are not perfect.
